a little bit of nostalgia in Wellington
Well, for people who were around in the 1960s anyway. Viewed in Bunny Street, the 8,181 grt cargo ship City of Auckland built in 1958 by Vickers Shipbuilding & Engineering in Barrow In Furness, England, for Ellerman Lines can been seen berthed at the wharf in the background as well as the cargo cranes for lifting things in and out of ships' holds, which are now things of the past.
As well as the Holdens (a Black & White taxi is at left), one notes a Chrysler Valient in the distance pulling out from next to Shed 21 (which is a now an apartment block) and a Humber at far right. Does the man crossing the street have bottles from the Hotel Waterloo bottle store? A photo considered for but not used in the book New Zealand Maritime Memories: the golden years.
