A photo of the last 5:10 pm train from Dunedin to Mosgiel at its destination. Those who have our books know this was 3 December 1982. On the left is a RRS Bedford bus to take commuters further.
Recently, however, there has been encouragment for a return of passenger trains from Dunedin north to Port Chalmers and south-west to Mosgiel, and twice a year a train using OETT equipment is put on for this. All concerned know what the reaction of the two Fat Controllers in the Beehive will be to that, but it does seem quite possible regardless, video

Doubt that will ever happen. This train was booked to depart at 5.27pm, and the bus was one of two which picked up passengers from the 5.10 'Flyer' arriving at 5.30pm. Myself, a niece, my mother and one other passenger were on this train, surprising, given it's historic importance.

Slight correction to the date , it was Friday, 3 December 1982, it was myself who took the photo, as a third former, took off to the station after school to take one last subbie ride and got this with my old Kodak Instamatic. Happy memories of youth railway photography!
I'm now one of the loco crew of Taieri gorge Railway and we have done suburban train days during school holidays in the winter months, when stock is not so tied up with cruise ship charters and two TGLs per day as they are during busy season.

Thanks, have corrected the date. Kodak Instamatic nostalgia... the entry camera of many a kid in the 1960s and 1970s. The best bit was that pop-up flash and the blue bulbs which went bubbly and frosty when used...
