Yes, the names of the US President and Vice-President in the 1990s, and co-incidentally the names of two towns 44 km apart on the South Island Main Trunk, and State Highway 1 in the South Island; this section of it in 1999 was officially named the Presidential Highway. And yes, President Clinton stopped by to check it out during his New Zealand visit for the summit meeting of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum leaders in September that year; he was given a copy of the roadsign in the pic to take back with him.
