One of 84 of this 3,600 hp model with a V20 prime mover delivered in the early 1970s to Cotton Belt (St. Louis Southwestern Railway), which was a Southern Pacific subsidiary from 1932 to 1992 when it was completely absorbed. The SD45T-2 was built by EMD for the SP, although a few were bought second hand from SP by other railroads.
