the Western Hutt Road and railway line, Wellington region, circa 1932

A view looking south from about where Kelson now is in the hills to the right.  There has been a lot of change in the intervening years.  The road shown here is basically what is now called Hebden Crescent while the Western Hutt Road is a 4 lane expressway spread over where the railway line is in this view is plus a lot more.  As those who have our books know, the railway north of Melling was closed in the 1950s and a new double-track line was built on the other side of the river for most of the route.
