This states that it is the first aircraft designed to cross any ocean or continent without stop. The DC-7C was put in service in June 1956 by Pan Am. It could carry 84 passengers and fly at 355 mph (570 km). It had a slightly higher altitude and longer range than the DC-7. It would soon be superseded by the Boeing 707 and the DC-8 jets.
