former Santa Fe Railway depot at Colorado Springs

This grand depot and (Fred) Harvey House, which looks like a school in England, was built in 1918 as a joint Santa Fe/Colorado & Southern facility, replacing the original (top pic). In 1972, the Santa Fe tracks through Colorado Springs were removed and rail operations were consolidated on the former Rio Grande trackage on the west side of town. The depot and the nearby express building (later used as a freight house) are now part of the University of the Rockies, located east of downtown on the south side of Pikes Peak Avenue where Colorado Avenue merges with it.
