traffic in Oamaru, 1940s

An American coupe is parked on the left, in the centre is a flat bed truck from the 1920s and a late 1930s Morris 8 is coming towards the camera on the right.  Compared with the carnage of WW1, the Boer War of 1899-1902 saw few NZ servicemen casualties: 71 were killed in action or died of wounds, with another 159 dying in accidents or as result of disease.  This war memorial in Thames Street was completed in 1905, a separate one to WW1 dead in 1926.
