Double-deck automobile rail cars form the first revenue part of this Southern Pacific freight train seen at Cahokia, Illinois, back in 1991 with the first two lead units SD40T-2 tunnel motors (see earlier posts). Like all other forms of freight, most long distance delivery of automobiles is done by rail in North America. According to the Association of American Railroads, "in a typical year, railroads originate 1.7 million carloads of finished vehicles, parts, and accessories."
