Auckland traffic congestion is world's 15th worst - report

On a list of the world's most congested cities compiled by navigation firm TomTom, which compares congestion levels in 169 cities across six continents, Auckland is ranked 15th, Christchurch 17th and Wellington 37th. At the worst Aucklanders spend 47 minutes in a hour stuck in traffic.

You may think Los Angeles would rank at the top, but the survey ranks Moscow as the most congested city, followed by Istanbul and the Polish city of Lodz.

Chris Kearney, vice-president TomTom Asia Pacific, rejects the Steven Joyce notion that building more motorways is the answer to the problem - "the more roads you build the faster they fill" - instead it's a matter of managing the network better and public transport is a fundamental part of it.  More
