the Rügendamm lift bridge, Stralsund, Germany, 1935

a rail and road vehicle ferry before 1935

The Rügendamm is the name of the Strelasund crossing built in 1935, carrying two lanes of road traffic, a single track rail line and a footpath to connect the island of Rügen with the mainland at Stalsund.  As can be seen it included a lifting or bascule section of bridge for marine vessels to pass.

In Steven Joyce style, road traffic was given a fancy new high bridge of its own in 2007.
