We came upon this DVD of the Norwegian movie O'Horten recently, although it has been available since 2008. An NSB locomotive engineer (not Irish - O'Horten is short for Odd Horten and Odd seems to be a normal Norwegian name) is retiring, and his adventures in life begin... An off-beat movie with enough train scenes (particularly in the first few minutes) to interest rail enthusiasts. In an interview with the director he says that he was inspired by watching a cab ride when flicking through TV channels in a London hotel and he found the Train Channel.

I watched this last year and enjoyed it, another movie from Scandinavia with a train theme is Mind The Gap, about an immigrant underground driver in Stockholm I think, and his relationship with his family. At almost retirement age and as a foreigner he is trying to learn Swedish, but keeps messing up and telling everyone on board as they alight over the traisn intercom to "Mind the Crap". Humourous and well acted.
