early Zugspitzbahn electric loco, Germany


One of 12 metre-gauge 1.5 kV DC electric locos delivered by AEG to the Zugspitzbahn system to the top of Germany's highest mountain in 1930.

This was one of the 4 "Talloks" for the adhesion section of line from Garmisch to Eibsee. The other 8 were for the cog-wheel section. The two-axle Talloks (thus Bo type) with an output of 2 x 112 kW reached a maximum of 50 km/h. They were 6.9 metres long and weighed 27.5 tonnes.
