GAZ's on Nevsky Prospect, Leningrad, late 1950s


GAZ here stands for Gorkovsky Avtomobilny Zavod (Russia, Nizhny Novgorod), translated as Gorky Automobile Plant (Russian: ГАЗ or Го́рьковский автомоби́льный заво́д), started in 1932 as NAZ, a cooperation between Ford and the Soviet Union.

Both the two front cars in view are Pobeda from different years (see an earlier post on comparison with an American Chevrolet Bel Air) which means "Victory", probably a reference to WW2.
