at Rocky Point a century ago

The view taken by Percy Godber in 1908 shows a passenger train rounding Rocky Point on newly built double track with eased curvature after partial reclamation between Wellington and Petone. The old sea-wall is still partially visible. The locomotive looks like a WF hauling seven carriages plus a van, all probably headed for Napier via the Wairarapa. Today the motorway occupies the space on the land side of the new track.
