former GWR steam railcar restored in the UK

As we have mentioned before, one of NZR's iconic Fiat railcars is being slowly recreated at Pahiatua.

In the UK a similar restoration project - that of a former Great Western Railway steam railcar and trailer - has been underway, and last month on 21 March it made its first public passenger carrying run on the Llangollen Railway in Wales (where the work was being carried out) - photo above.  In the early 1970s the Great Western Society based at Didcot acquired Auto Trailer No. 212 which had been rebuilt from the original Steam Railmotor vehicle No. 93 in the 1930s, together with Auto Trailer No. 92, with the dream that one day they might be returned to operational condition, in original form as a steam railmotor and trailer combination.

The public launch of the Railmotor at Didcot Railway Centre takes place on Saturday 28 May.  Work on the trailer is continuing at Llangollen. Website
