Amazon UK steps up the competition for book customers in NZ and Australia

The Book Depository website has for some time offered free delivery on its books to customers in various countries, now the Amazon.co.uk website is also offering free delivery on orders, provided they exceed £25 of eligible items, to customers in New Zealand, Australia, India and South Africa.  The offer apparently ends on 15 May, although it won't surprise us if it is extended.

More bad news for local booksellers in these countries?  Certainly, if they don't stock locally published books which people can't get from Amazon.  Why don't NZ booksellers do the obvious sensible thing and stock a much bigger selection of New Zealand books than they do?  We can't fathom that either.
