'Avelona Star' (2) at Hamburg, 1970s

The Avelona Star (2) was one of six reefer (refrigerated) ships built for Blue Star Line in the mid 1970s and was built at Smiths Dock Ltd at Middlesborough on the River Tyne.

During her career she served as a supply ship in the Falklands conflict in 1982, then was sold in 1984, partly due to the downturn on reefer services worldwide for large companies like Blue Star Line, to Wallem Shipping of Hong Kong and renamed Castle Peak. The ship was sold again in 2001 to Jamaican interests becoming the Baltic Wind.  She went to the breakers in India in 2010.

This is one of a large series of ongoing oil paintings on this company by Wallace Trickett. This work was commissioned from Dunedin.
