the PRR's Broadway Limited

A postcard from 1923 of The Broadway Limited, the Pennsylvania Railroad's (PRR) premier named passenger train, which operated daily in each direction between New York City and Chicago via North Philadelphia. The Broadway was inaugurated in 1912 and outlasted the Pennsylvania Railroad, operating under Amtrak until 1995. The name referred not to Broadway in Manhattan, but rather to the "broad way" of the Pennsylvania Railroad's four-track right of way along a large portion of the route. The schedule was 20 hours until 1932; it dropped to 16 hrs 30 min in 1935 and 16 hours flat when lightweight cars took over on 15 June 1938.
