nautical curiosties

This recent book we've discovered is an encyclopedia of facts of varying levels of strangeness (and quite a few straight facts) that people may ever have wondered about the sea, ships and the people who have sailed the seas.  It is US published so there is a US emphasis, but there is plenty from everywhere else too.  It manages to pack a lot into its 384 pages -- mostly text interspersed with monochrome graphics -- and needless to say it is a recent addition to our library of reference books.
