is the Sebnitztalbahn still threatened?

As these photos from Google Earth show, the Sebnitztalbahn or Sebnitz Valley Railway is a scenically charming rural line in the east of Germany that connects Neustadt (Sachsen) to Bad Schandau (28 km) on the main Dresden to Prague main line.  The line effectively originates in Bautzen, 36 km before Neustadt.

From the timetable change on 12 December 2010, following a re-tendering of transport services passenger trains on the line Bad Schandau-Sebnitz-Neustadt-Pirna have been operated by Städtebahn Sachsen GmbH.

But last September the Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe decided on an austerity package in response to the proposed reduction in allocations from the state of Saxony. It contained, among other things, the cancellation of rail passenger services from April 2011. However, on 20 January 2011, the VVO made known that these measures are for the time being suspended due to savings of five million Euros arising from reduced station usage fees.  Unofficial website
