railway line at Tweed Heads a century ago

You probably ask, given that this is now at the southern end of what is today the major metropolis of the Gold Coast of Queensland (actually Tweed Heads is just across the NSW border), where is this railway now?

Well, the line from Brisbane to Tweed Heads was given Steven Joyce style treatment in 1964 - yes, politicians in those days were just as short sighted as Mr Joyce is now.  With continued growth of the Gold Coast after the line was closed, the line was expensively rebuilt for modern high-speed electric operation in the 1990s as far as Robina (85 km from Brisbane) and extended another 4 km to Varsity Lakes 2 years ago, although this is still over 20 km short of where the original line ended.
