the old Kurow branch, mid-1970s

The tower on the left was for cement - construction of the Waitaki hydro-dam scheme was one of the branch's uses.
A typical South Island branch Dj locomotive up front.
Evidently the Station-Master drove a Morris Minor!
No passengers since 1929.

Some pics by Joe Wallace (with some fairly major colour correction by us) of the former Kurow branch terminus in North Otago which ran 60 km inland from the SIMT generally along the course of the Waitaki river to this rural location, until it was closed in 1983.

Lovely pictures, well captured! I'd enjoy seeing some of the Okaihau Branch if you have any, discovering it by foot via the cycleway at the moment

My husband thinks this is his Dads Morris Minor who was Kurows Station Master! Does the photograph have a date?
