Although the final count of votes cast on polling day won't be announced until about Friday, 9 December, of the more than 150,000 advance votes counted, about 55% are for keeping the MMP system of proportional representation in parliament, a figure in line with opinion poll results.
Of the alternatives, which people were also asked to choose, only about 32% were for a return to the British "First Past the Post" system, less than the 35% "informal" votes - effectively those who didn't want any other system.
