Otago Central by railway, kind of

The Otago Rail Trail follows the route of the former Otago Central Branch railway from Middlemarch to Clyde, and since its creation nearly 20 years ago has become very popular with locals and foreigners alike.  The pic is the cover of one of the colourful guidebooks which have been produced about the experience.

Our own book The Otago Central Railway: a tribute was published just after the line closed and as it covers the whole of the former railway, has been very popular ever since with those who only have time for the Taieri Gorge railway, the 64 km of the line which was saved by the Dunedin City Council as a tourist attraction - NZ's version of the Silverton and Durango in Colorado.
