Nogales, a city and a fence

The first photo from 1899 shows the town of Nogales, the area to the right of the line of posts down the wide street belongs to the USA, specifically the state of Arizona, while the part to the left is Mexico.  The railway line was the main form of transport then.  It is still there now but obscurred  by its surroundings.

The magazine photo from 1950 shows that a fence has been built along the border and an official crossing point installed.  The recent photo (looking the opposite way towards the standpoint in the first two photos) shows that the fence has been heightened and strengthened against 'economic migrants' and drug traffikers from Mexico, although it is a long way short of a Berlin wall.

This postcard shows the Alvaro Obregon shopping street in the early 1950s, the building in the right background still seems to be the tallest in the Mexican town.
