Unpublished 'Letters to the Editor' of the Daily Telegraph

A book we came upon recently, published last year, is this little compilation of unpublished Letters to the Editor of Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper which those in charge of that section of the paper felt deserving of being put into print in another form.

The introduction states that on a typical day the paper receives 500 e-mails, 100 faxes and a similar number of paper letters. Of that, about 20 make it into the paper.

The ones in this book - quite a few actually start with "Am I alone in thinking...?" - still obviously constitute a small sampling of the unsuccessful, but the compiler says that the basis of selection is that each has a valid point to make in its own, often entertaining way - a sample below. This is the sort of book to get out to help while away those short periods spent in a train station or on a plane!

'Sir -
When Madonna moved to England she said she wanted to feel more English.
She is shortly to become a single mother with three children from different fathers. Job done, then.

H.B.
Arkly, Hertfordshire'
