those Holocaust deniers

One of the Google ads on our site today urges people to sign a petiton to the Pope against some clergy who claim the Jewish Holocaust of WW2 is the Jews' creation.

The Google ads are chosen by them and not by us, nor are our staff Jewish - but this is something we can certainly endorse. Truth in history is important. Those who seek to rewrite it with falsehoods for whatever reason do everyone a disservice. There is ample evidence, including from those involved with it, that the Holocaust happened, and in fact recent evidence that has been obtained in Eastern Europe since the collapse of communism is that it was even worse than previously thought. The book Einsatzgruppen on the SS ambulant execution squads is grim but compelling reading; at least a quarter of the 6 million victims were shot into pits. Anti-semetic elements in the occupied countries in the East were invited to assist which they commonly did.

Not all members of the Einsatzgruppen liked their job and there were many cases of mental breakdown, but there were also plenty who relished it. The Nazi heirachy was aware that that they were creating neurotic brutes in the field who would not fit comfortably into German society again, so the gas chamber alternative was developed. The heirachy also took a dim view of gratuitous sadism that could be observed by non-Jews and there were some prosecutions, but the whole saga is one of the darker episodes in European history.
