North Island Main Trunk books
A few people have asked what the situation is with our announced guidebook to the North Island Main Trunk railway which has been on our main website's "In preparation" page for 3 years now.
We had intended to produce it for the line's centennial in 2008, but unbeknown to us, OnTrack had commissioned Graham Stewart (Grantham House) to produce a centennial celebration book, which when we found out about it, caused us to put our project on the backburner. Then the NZR&LS announced they were doing a book project too, which has caused another lengthy delay; this book - Trains on the Trunk by Graeme Carter - is expected in the next few weeks.
Once we know what is in this book, we can then finish ours - obviously we do not want to repeat content in other books.
The illustration above is a stamp that NZ Post issued in 2008 to mark the centenary using a Peter Mellor photo of a steam train on the Raurimu Spiral.
