electric streetcars (trams) in Canton Zug poster, Switzerland, 1914

Not so obvious, but this shows an electric streetcar (tram) rolling over the Lorzetobel Viaduct, in fact the second of three covering this ravine, this one from 1910. It comprised five arches each of 30 meters and an abutment with 15 meters clear width and a length of 187 meters. The usable width was about 6.5 meters, the maximum pier height 58 meters. The bridge served not only the road, but also the electric streetcar (tram) in the Canton. The tram operation over the bridge ended on 23 May 1955 and was replaced by buses with trailers.  In 1960 several cracks in it were observed and it was decided to replace it with a third viaduct, although this didn't happen until the 1980s.  The 1910 viaduct was retained, like the first wooden bridge dating from 1759 visible in the illustration.
