Clipper Ship 'Mondoro'

The Mondoro was launched in 1864, built at Boston for Silsbee, Pickman & Allen of Salem. She was the last of the great East India fleet, which, for over 100 years, had represented Salem merchants and the American flag. This painting depicts the Mondoro resting at anchor near a shoreline.

One of a batch of 62 that were built over 1947-1948 and purchased secondhand from Regina Transit in 1966; #148 has been preserved by the City of Edmonton.  The city's trolley buses lasted from 1939 to 2009.

Swissair DC-3 poster art, 1937

A Swissair DC-3 is depicted flying over the cathedral of Zürich. The airline was founded on 26 March 1931 after the merger of Astra and Balair. The legal name of the new company was Schweizerischer Luftverkehrs AG, but Swissair was chosen as the operating name. DC-3 airliners were delivered to Swissair in 1937. The first Swissair logo is painted on the fuselage.

No other info.  See earlier posts, however, of the steam tram-trains at Sumner. The United Services Hotel in the right background was built 1884-1885 and demolished in 1990.

1966 Holden HD

A photo that was probably taken not long after it was bought new.  Location not stated -- Taupo?

the SS 'Oronsay' liner (1924) Orient Line

Seen at Molde, Norway.  The maiden voyage of this 20,043 grt ship was on 7 February 1925, and her fate was being torpedoed by an Italian submarine off the coast of Liberia on 9 October 1942. 

Length was 659 ft (201 metres), propulsion was 2 screws powered by a steam turbine engine, enabling a maximum speed of 18 knots (33 km/h). Passenger capacity was 1,836 which may have been increased when used as a troopship.

Lead unit here, #1286 was built by the Canadian Locomotive Company in 1948, a type 4-6-2, class G5d; the second unit, #1238 is classed G5c.

"Rockhampton Council Tramways was a steam tram service [running on cape gauge] which was operated by Rockhampton City Council from 1909 until 1939 in the Central Queensland city, the only regional city in Queensland to have had a tram service.
