Hopefully it's a fiberglass or plastic replica, it's hard to imagine a standard ceiling coping with the weight of a real car.

Nearly all the trackage existed because of the town being one terminal of the Store Bælt crossing to Korsør which until 1997 was done by ferry. That year the 18 km bridge was opened and Iittle of this exists now. See earlier posts.

This Town & Country Newport features a 324/135hp Inline 8-cylinder engine with a 3-speed fluid-drive transmission with synchromesh gears, independent coil-spring front suspension, solid axle rear suspension with hydraulic shocks and leaf springs, and 4-wheel hydraulic disc brakes. It has a 127.5" wheelbase and was purchased from the personal collection of Jim Rogers. A one-year-only design, this is one of 698 built. Semi-restored, it [had] 65,300 original miles (the title reads mileage exempt), and is, except for a few quality refinishes, exactly the same car built by the factory in 1950. This fine example features original wood panels and original engine. The paint shows very well, the interior is in excellent like-new condition, it drives smooth and the engine purrs like a kitten. Made only in 1950.

The car featured in an episode of Pawn Stars set in Las Vegas a few years back.

Favor motorcycles poster circa 1920

"Favor was established as a manufacturer of bicycles in 1898 by Guillaume Étienne, with a factory built in Clermont-Ferrand some time later. In 1919 he was joined by his brothers Joseph and René, and their first motorcycle, a 125cc two-stroke, was built in 1921.

The company built midrange twostrokes, and single cylinder fourstroke SV and OHV models with engines from JAP and Blackburne. After the Second World War they built motorcycles using engines from AMC, Aubier-Dunne, Benelli, Alter, Ydral and others.

In 1955 they formed a partnership with Riva of Vichy (RSI), and also absorbed Gima of Chamalières and Alter of Chalette-sur-Loing.

Due to the turmoil experienced throughout the European motorcycle industry in the late 1950s as a result in the boom in small car sales, Favor ceased manufacture of motorcycles. Mopeds and motorised bicycles, along with cycles, remained in production. That same year they became French champion in the 50cc and 100cc classes.

Benelli came into the picture in 1960, with Favor selling their Favor-Benelli range of rebadged Italian 50s. All sales of motorised two-wheelers finally ceased in 1971. The firm was wound up in 1977."

FS passenger train in the drink, Piombino, Italy 1983

This railway accident at the port of Piombino on 31 July 1983 happened when the Freccia dell'Elba train was heading towards the Piombino Marittima station. Approaching this it failed to correctly perform the braking operation, impacted with the buffer stop placed on the dock at the end of the tracks, knocked it down and went into the sea. The front electro power car ALe 840 was completely submerged, followed by the hauled trailer Le 800.005 (shown) which was partially submerged in the water, remaining poised on the edge of the pier; the rest of the trainset, made up of another towed vehicle and the tail power car, remained on the dock and were severely damaged by the impact. Luckily  the accident caused no injuries: the train was devoid of passengers and the crew managed to escape by jumping off the moving train.

Edison electric mini-bus that ran from Christchurch to Dunedin NZ, circa 1920

Photographed in Christchurch by Samuel Heath Head. The sign on the bus reads “Edison Electric Vehicle. Christchurch to Dunedin. A.R. Harris & Co. Sole NZ Agents. Chch.”  Details are not recorded about how comfortable and reliable it was, particularly compared with the train.
