Rock Island Station, Topeka, Kansas, 1910s

Two separate views; the amount of ivy on the second suggests it is a later pic. In either case, was the colorist informed of the actual colors?

"This Rock Island passenger terminal at 1st St. & Kansas Avenue. was a 'stub' operation with all trains having to use the wye a few blocks west of this location. It is unclear if standard practice was for passenger trains to back into the station then utilize the wye upon departure, or if the reverse was usual. It is certainly reasonable to assume that both methods were used over the years, with one being more customary that the other. This must have quite a grand & beautiful structure to observe in person! I have never seen any color photos of this station, which burned down in the 1930's." (TrainOrders.com)

The present day scene.

The present day Topeka Amtrak station is about half a mile away.

NZR diesel, electric and steam locos on the Hutt Valley Line, 1954

A brand new Df from English Electric with what looks like a load test as the pantographs on the Ed aren't up. Those schoolboys are probably getting their first look at a Df in action.

For lots more see the book Wellington Transport Memories.

'can I help you with a good real book?'

Bluebell Railway poster featuring 0-6-0T 'Fenchurch'

The loco was built in 1872, arrived at Bluebell in 1963, and returned to traffic in 2001 after a rebuild. This engine was withdrawn at the end of January 2011 following expiry of its boiler certificate. In early December 2019 she entered the locomotive works and was dismantled to remove the boiler for assessment, and the remainder of the locomotive reassembled for a return to public display in the newly refurbished display shed. The overhaul was formally completed in January 2023 although this poster art is dated 2012.

See earlier posts for more on the Bluebell Railway.

Usually spelt Carrizo nowadays, this is on the spectacular San Diego & Arizona Eastern railroad which went through the north of Mexico, some of which still exists but not used much.  Art by Maurice Logan.

Some info is here, there is also a FB group dedicated to it.
