One of the 37 of EMD's GP35 model that Reading Lines bought is seen with a short freight train in the Pennsylvania Mountains circa 1970. The GP35, like other GP's was a Bo-Bo 4-powered axle diesel-electric and 1,334 were built between July 1963 and January 1966. The prime mover was an EMD 567D3A 16-cylinder engine which generated 2,500 hp (1,860 kW).
Reading was one of the railroads merged into Conrail in 1976.
