Mussolini's personal electric railcar
Italian Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) railcar ALe 880 118, formerly part of ETS 11, a private train of Benito Mussolini, stored in Bologna Centrale engine terminal on 10 May 1992.
This electric railcar was built by FIAT in 1940, together with a matching unit eventually lettered ALe 880 117, to form a permanently coupled two-unit train for the personal use of the fascist dictator. Formerly equipped with rationalist-style furnishings, in 1950 it was rebuilt from war damage with standard 3rd class wood seats and put into passenger service. Photo and scan by Jacopo Fioravanti from Railfan Europe.
