We showed a postcard of a punt over the Inangahua River a couple of weeks ago; this shows another form of cross-river transport for a few people at a time, at the Kumara River on the West Coast.
The sign instructs one arriving at the stage to ring the bell; presumably this summons the man who winds the cables holding the cabin.
