A 1920s scene showing the Gorge Service Station at the bottom of the Ngauranga Gorge in Wellington where it intersects with the Hutt Road. The road up the gorge was only for the adventurous in those days, now it is six lanes. The service station sold a range of petrol, not one brand as has been the norm for many years now: Big Tree, Shell, Union Motor Spirit, Mobiloil, Castrol. For more, see the book
Wellington Transport Memories.
