Not just because of the rolling stock being obsolete and scrapped, but because the curve north out of Otaki was completely recreated with the completion of the Peka Peka to Otaki Expressway which now dominates this scene (and which is right now being extended to north of Levin.)
This was a popular photo position for railfans. The Di, Da and Dj were doing sway and kant test runs around the nearby Forest Lakes curves. The Dj at the end was brand new and the Di in front wasn't very old either despite the road grime. (Russ Bidgood pic from 1968)
