The Austin 8 used the same 900cc four cylinder side valve engine developing 24bhp as it is predecessor, the Austin Big Seven of 1938-39, though with a slightly higher compression ratio.
The Eight was produced until 1949 when it was replaced by the Austin A40. Over 40,000 were sold during its two-year production run.
