Ascot Street, Wellington
Some may remember visiting us when we were in this street between 2000 - 2003 only a short walk from cental Wellington. This artwork by a Kapiti artist was the view from the front entrance to our two storey house, and if someone was inconveniently parked on the left, our car risked a scrape on the railings on the right which it got a couple of times! It is steeper than it looks and although pretty, like all of Thorndon, the 300-metre high Tinakori Hill (behind the artist in this view) blocked out a lot of afternoon sun and in winter it was gone by 1 pm. Our editor used to walk from his house in Wilton on the other side of Tinakori Hill where he got all-afternoon sun...
