NSW 80 class diesel

Seen attached to a 44 class on a freight train at Lithgow in 1986.  The 50 members of this Co-Co type diesel-electric were built by Comeng over 1978-1983. An initial order of 30 was followed by an additional order for 20. The first order were delivered in Indian red livery with yellow wings, while the second received a reverse livery with a yellow nose and Indian red wings, as seen here.

For details on the 10 of the very similar looking 85 class electrics, see the book Railway Electrification in Australia and Zealand.
