ships and cars in Aqaba, Jordan, 1970s


This is Jordan's only sea port, on the Gulf of Aqaba, part of the Red Sea, and close to the border with Israel (the resort of Eilat): those hills in the background will be in Israel.  Aqaba is close to copper mines.

Because Aqaba's location is also next to Wadi Rum and Petra it is in Jordan's golden triangle of tourism, which strengthened the city's location on the world map and made it one of the major tourist attractions in Jordan.
