train at the Tientsin settlement station, China

Age uncertain. The British and other European powers created settlements in the north China treaty port of Tientsin, today Tianjin. During the Japan-China war, the area fell to the Japanese in July 1937.  After the entry of Japan into WW2 in December 1941 the foreign concessions were ended by the Japanese except for the Italian and French concessions (the local French officials were loyal to Vichy). Japanese occupation lasted until 15 August  1945, with the surrender of Japan to the Allies.
