paddle steamers at Pipiriki on the N.Z. Rhine, 1900s



According to this the Wanganui River (now spelled Whanganui) was the N.Z. Rhine.  If you're thinking "yeah, right" so are we, but it was and still is a worthwhile scenic trip.

We have a fleet of century old paddle steamers in Bangladesh which are still in operation. They were built in the colonial period and still serving as a passenger boat.
