Mobile, Alabama, port facilities and ships a century ago

Terminal facilities of the Southern Railway. Being located on both the Mobile River and the Gulf Coast, this is a significant port in the southern USA.  Mobile was settled by French colonists (it is still pronounced the French way) and was the first capital of colonial French Louisiana in 1702. The city got its name from the Native American Mobilian tribe that the French found in the area.
