Until the February earthquake there were two operating heritage tramways in Christchurch, one in Ferrymead Park and the other around central city streets. It will be a while before the central city one can operate again; this Wallace Trickett photo from 2001 shows Tram 244, a Melbourne W2, built in 1925 to carry 54 passengers. Retired in 1983, it was restored to its former glory and back on the tracks in Christchurch in 1996.
