elaborate tunnel portal of Brison-Saint-Innocent, France

The Lorelei tunnel portals on the Rhine river in Germany are probably the best known in Europe for their designs, but that of the 375-metre double track Brison-Saint Innocent tunnel from 1857 on the shore of the Lac du Bourget is notable too.

It is still in use, on the 135 km line from Culoz to Modane (frontière), known as the Ligne de la Maurienne.
