early days of the Wellington - Kelburn cable car


Another of the pictures that was considered for, but didn't make the final selection for the book Wellington Transport Memories, this shows a cable car not far from the top of the line at Kelburn(e), approximately 120 metres above the level of Lambton Quay where the other terminal is, in the first few years after the system opened in 1902.

Have you considered publishing a second volume of it?

It's something we would probably have done a few years ago, but the present market for books is very depressed. Moreover, someone produces another book about Wellington every year or so, which although invariably inferior to ours, create more competition for shelf space in outlets.
