British Railways Class 124 Diesel Multiple Unit
Eight 6-car sets, plus 3 spare cars were built over 1960-1961 at the Swindon Works specifically for the
trans-Pennine route
. They were fitted with 2 × 230-horsepower (170 kW) Leyland Albion motors per power car. All were scrapped in 1984.
