The date of 6 November 1976 is chalked on the the front. The branch line on the Bellarine Peninsula between the coastal town of Queenscliff and Drysdale, near Geelong opened in 1879 and with mixed fortunes lasted just short of a century, the last train being the one shown. But it didn't end there: a 16 km section was retained and turned into the Bellarine Railway heritage operation, opening in 1979. It was converted from broad gauge to 3 ft 6 in and operates a selection of preserved steam and diesel power.
